Serving the Seddon and Awatere Valley community from Mills Street — stocked for real life, open every single day.
From your weekly shop to a quick top-up on the way home from the vineyard — we keep the shelves stocked with what Awatere families actually need.
We know life in a small town doesn't stop on weekends or public holidays. That's why we're here, seven days a week without fail.
Seddon sits at the gateway to the Awatere Valley — 25 kilometres south of Blenheim on State Highway 1, on the south bank of the Awatere River. Named after New Zealand Premier Richard Seddon, the town was established in 1899 when the government broke up the vast Starborough estate and opened the land to smaller farms and families.
For generations this was pastoral country — sheep, cattle and wide open sky. Then, from the 1990s, the deep river terraces and intense Marlborough sunshine transformed the valley into one of New Zealand's great wine regions. Today the Awatere is home to some of the world's most celebrated Sauvignon Blanc, including Yealands Estate — recognised as the most sustainable winery on the planet.
That transformation brought new life to Seddon. Vineyard workers from across the Pacific — Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Tuvalu — came to work the harvest and many made this home. The Awatere is genuinely multicultural, and we're proud to stock the foods, products and essentials that reflect the whole community — from the farming families who've been here for a century to the newest arrivals.
The valley is extraordinary country. The Awatere River — whose name means fast flowing stream in te reo Māori — runs 110 kilometres from its alpine headwaters, with Mt Tapuae-o-Uenuku watching over the valley from the north. The highest peak in New Zealand outside the Southern Alps, it defines the Awatere skyline.
"Seddon services the agricultural and viticultural communities of the Awatere Valley — a place where farming families and seasonal workers from across the Pacific share the same roads, the same valley, and the same store."
